Simple English

In addition to the type poster, I designed a book
which converted the actual advert quotes into
simple understandable terms.

Monday

Self Directed Study

I chose the subject of advertising to investigate, and
produce ideas which developed into new, interesting
approaches. I created an informational diagram which
were an analysis of the words on the opposite side.

I created a folding design where the text would meet
and then would need to be unfolded into a poster.

Negotiated Brief

This project titled Negotiated Brief required me to choose between three different choices, My chosen one being '78rpm – mp3' this involved selecting two songs and creating a design of either a celebration or a comparison between them. I decided to choose two songs from the same artist, that being of the now late Michael Jackson. I concentrated on the highs and lows of his life, and designed these within a small concertina book using newspaper cuttings as the background, the reason behind it, feeling like his life being like an open book and always in the interest of the media.

Live Brief

The aim for my last project of the HND Graphic course was to write my own brief and carry out the criteria that I had set. I created a series of Penguin book covers for stories that had never previously had one. I feel that this became more of a challenge as I had to read the stories in order to gain a full understanding of how I could design the cover without giving the story away.
Through this project I took the opportunity to visit different places where I took photographs which enabled me to produce the final covers.

Corporate Identity

Rebranding the Riverside Garden Centre
This involved designing a new logo and Stationary set, alongside the signage and other aspects around the company. I chose the cafe's menu, price tag and customer bags.
I tried to use subtle but realistic colours rather than stating the obvious.

Editorial project

My first aim during this brief was to design a masthead for a fictional transport magazine In Motion. From this I then led on to design a front cover, a contents page and a double page article spread on a subject of my choice. My article was based on traveling 'greener'. I was able to contact a company in Devon that actually run Green taxis, making this a primary source for this project.

Habitat Packaging Project

Based around the Christmas season, I had to design and make a piece of packaging for the Home Furnishing Store Habitat.
After choosing to package a Wine Mulling Kit, I decided to make my packaging from hessian this would mean the use of cheaper materials and keeping the natural essence about it. I sewed pockets on to allow for a place to hold the spices.
The front was Screen Printed in two different colours, where I included the ingredients which were being packaged between words.

Experimental Type (HND project)

The brief : to create a magazine jacket for Baseline Magazine, which would then fold out into an A2 poster. The graphics would be based on a chosen typeface of my choice.
